Daniel Leader
Bread Alone, Boiceville, New York
After years of working as a chef in the rarefied milieu of Manhattan restaurants, Leader longed to return to honest, nourishing cuisine. He opened Bread Alone in 1984, with a commitment to seek out grains from farmers who practice organic agriculture and flour from the mills that service them. Today, his bakery set off a country road near Woodstock supplies bread to restaurants and food stores in the area and in New York City and Boston.
